Saint Margaret ChurchX

The original church was designed in 1968 and reflected the design aesthetic of its time. The parish asked us the look at ways to relieve the heaviness of the sanctuary created by the inward slope of the walls and to create a clear focus for mass. The direction to the design team was this: when a person enters the space he/she should feel uplifted. Since the roof was being replaced as part of the project, the concept of introducing an apse was determined to be an effective way of creating a stronger vertical focus for the cross and tabernacle and a central focus for the church. The apse is designed as a triptych, with commissioned glass mosaic and a gold leaf back drop for the crucifix. The scope also included completely redoing all the back of house spaces to accommodate new handicapped accessible restrooms, new gathering space, new reconciliation rooms, bride's room and storage. The scope also included all new light fixtures and new mechanical system.
