Eutaw Marshburn Media CenterX
The school library had not undergone any significant renovations since it was built over 50 years ago. The new library media center was nearly doubled in size. The program included 25 computer stations, reading risers, a group instructional area equipped for multi-media presentations, new lighting, hvac and electrical systems. Existing bookcases were refinished and supplemented with new brightly colored casework. The space was articulated and animated with color and form. Curved floor patterns, ceiling bulkheads and circular acrylic light diffusers. A ring of computer stations separates the reading area from the main body of the library. Picture book storage is built in to the back of the computer stations and a custom acrylic divider screen follows the curve of the casework. The result is a bright and playful space richly illuminated with natural light.
