Baltimore Polytechnic HS Media CenterX
Baltimore Polytechnic Institute shares a 572,000 sf campus with Western High School. Built in 1964, the school has not undergone a major renovation since then. The media center project, funded by the Qualified Zone Academy Bonds, will provide needed upgrades, including new air conditioning, new lighting and new technology infrastructure. In addition, the renovation included new flooring, acoustical treatment of the ceiling and new casework and circulation desk. Programmatically, the media center features an informal fiction reading area, a stacks area for reference and non-fiction, an area for instruction with pull down screen and smart board, and an open seating area with integrated technology (laptop connections for power and data) and lighting.
